A Big Thanks & Welcome!

We just wanted to say...

A Big Thanks & Welcome

... To all our the new customers we welcomed at the Sewing, Stitching & Hobbycraft Show last weekend, it was lovely to speak to you and find out all about what you're doing. And great to see a few faces of existing customers too - please keep in contact!

We had a fantastic time, and were lucky enough to be rushed off our feet for most of the show, sharing our fantastic sewing goodies and getting feedback on our products.

So many people were impressed with our subscription boxes, and we received some valuable input from you that will go into shaping what you want from these boxes. Watch out for a blog post over the weekend explaining more about these little wonders!

Once again, thanks for all your support, both now and continually. It really means a lot to us that you choose to shop with us and we get so many lovely compliments about our products. It really does keep us going and mean the world to us!

Lots of crafting love - Amy & Angela

Sponsored Project: Infinite Architecture-Performance

Read all about this fantastic project that we are sponsoring, put together by project Infinite, the personal project of a hard-working and inspirational student from Arts University Bournemouth....

Project Infinite

National Architecture-Performance Tour Launches in Bournemouth

Saturday 29th August marks the Bournemouth launch of INFINITE, a performance project which will be touring the UK.  INIFINITE will allow audience and performers to become united as one, demonstrating that disability does not mean a lack of ability.  These first performances of INFINITE will take place in the central garden at the Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) at 12.30 and 2.00pm.
The performance is structured around a specially designed and commissioned set which consists of a series of architecture frames, creating a ‘Mountain’ set and presenting the opportunity for challenge and risk, potential and discovery, whilst contrasting freedom and constraint.
The driving force behind INIFINITE is Katie Thomas, a Master’s student at AUB, whose passion for fusing architecture and dance hopes to break boundaries within the realms of theatrical design, performance and disability.  “INFINITE is about inspiring people to use their personal challenges as a motivation to succeed, instead of as a reason for giving up” explained Katie.
Shaw Trust, a charity that helps disabled and disadvantaged people into work across the United Kingdom, are a key sponsor of INFINITE. Roy O’Shaughnessy, Chief Executive of Shaw Trust, said:

“Shaw Trust is delighted to sponsor the development of an accessible performance set for the launch of INFINITE. It is important to promote greater inclusivity in the arts and help talented disabled performers to begin an exciting career in the industry. We are proud to be associated with this project and look forward to the launch.”

Inclusive performance group Diverse City are premiering a new performance at the launch. Claire Hodgson, CEO of Diverse City, said:
“We work to ensure that all people, irrespective of background and identity, have equal rights, opportunity and access to the performing arts. Collaborating with INFINITE allows us to explore new art forms and means that our work will be seen by wider audiences.”
Kirolite, a high-end wood joinery, lacquer finishing and solid surface fabricator based in Poole, have commissioned the build of the INFINITE set. Bonnie Randall, Managing Director of Kirolite, said:
“It is fantastic to see someone so passionate about a project that can significantly contribute to the breakdown of barriers that disabled people face."
More information can be found at facebook.com/infinitecharity or by emailing thomasdesignstudio@outlook.com

Thanks for seeing us at the New Forest Show!

We spent last week having a ball at the New Forest Show - thanks to everyone who came down to say hello and got their hands on some lovely sewing goodies! It was lovely to see so many familiar faces and meet some new ones too!

Here's a little pic of our home for the week, our carefully designed stall featuring some wonky-at-first-attempt shelves!!

Luckily a handy screwdriver helped us out with that problem and we were soon straightened out and ready to go on Tuesday!

We took down an array of our goodies and used some of our fabulous fabrics to make up into projects to really show them off - my favourites were by far the nautical lampshade and princess castle cushion.

The show saw the first outing of our complete range of DMC natura crochet yarn, which proved a big hit - we were selling it by the bag full at times! The gorgeous colours and fantastic soft feel of the yarn really won everyone over, as well as some of the cute patterns - the funky farmyard animals was a firm favourite for the week!

Now don't groan, but our other most popular product during the show was our... Christmas advent panels! Yes, Christmas starts in July in the crafting world, because life happens and it ends up taking months to actually get round to making even the simplest of christmas projects. The stocking advent panels were definitely a winner for their novelty appeal, but the new advent calendar panels were also a big hit, especially for those looking to make up items for Christmas craft fairs. We made up the Angel Advent Panel and fell in love with its gorgeous metallic touches and sweet smile!

A big thank you to everyone who came to say hello and has been in contact since - it was lovely to meet you and we hope to see you again soon! Don't forget that we're currently at the Christchurch market in Saxon Square on Mondays, weather permitting.

Website updates: New sample ordering & lower prices!

A quick update on what's been changing on our website, to help improve your customer experience! We've been making changes to how you can order samples of our fabrics, and updated pricing changes.

Ordering Fabric Samples & New Lower Fabric Prices

New Sample Ordering System

We're happy to announce that we've made it easier than ever to order your samples from us! Previously, we required you to email us your details and a list of samples you wanted which was very long-winded. We've improved this to make it much easier, by allowing you to add samples straight to your basket. Simply select the 'FREE sample' option in the drop down box of any fabric product page, and add to cart.

This means you can easily order samples alongside other products in one order, and we'll receive your delivery details right away. Don't forget, if you decide to make an account with us, you can store your details for when you come back next time!

New lower prices

We're always looking at ways to offer the best value for our customers, and having reviewed some of our products and prices lately, we decided it was time to give you even better value! As our Makower fabrics are so popular, we have reduced the price of them to £11 per metre so that you can order more for your money and make every project special but affordable.

If you haven't noticed already, we've also recently got a new range of crochet supplies including crochet wool. We think that the DMC Natura Yarn is just so gorgeous that we want you all to be able to afford to use it, so we've reduced the price from the RRP of £3.50 a ball to £2.99 per ball, which is especially good value if you're working on a larger crochet project. Our Natura XL yarn is also now permanently reduced to £4.49.

And lastly... don't forget that all our regular cross stitch kits, including DMC cross stitch kits and the stitching shed kits, are 20% off this week!

Update: Our Retail Shop

So back in February we posted that we were excited to begin the process of getting our own little shop. It's been quite a few months since then, and we've been asked about it a lot, so we thought we'd give you a little update on what's going on...

My Sewing Box Shop Update

It's now June (my, how time flies) and we are sad that the shop we were hoping to be in by May did not go ahead. We were so excited about it and being part of the Highcliffe community, but sadly there were too many complications and we could not go forward.

However, we haven't given up on our dream yet and we're looking for different premises - so watch this space! It's been a long time coming for us and we just want to create somewhere where all of our customers, and ourselves, will love to come and spend time, getting inspired.

We don't know yet where we'll be, but it's been so lovely to hear from so many of you expressing your support for us, and exciting to see how many of you can't wait for it to happen! As always, we'll keep you updated via our newsletter and social media links (see below).

Don't forget to follow/like us on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest so we can keep you inspired and updated! You can sign up for the newsletter here and use the links below to find us on social media:
