#mysewingchallenge Sew-Along Week 1: Zips

It's here! Week 1 of our sew-along challenge has finally arrived, and we hope you're just as excited as we are!

For our first challenge, we thought we'd ease you in gently with something you may have attempted before, but one that lots of people hate - zips.

20cm Antique Brass Chunky Dress Zip - Black

We want to see projects that incorporate at least one zip this week, to help you practice putting in these little devils; because trust us, practice makes perfect with these! Whether you're a beginner and it's your first ever zip project like a make up bag/purse, or you're an advanced sewer that wants to tackle a biker jacket with multiple zips, we want to see what you can make! Get as creative as you like, but make sure you challenge yourself - the whole point of this sew-along is to push you to try new things and practice the trickier techniques in sewing.

How it works

Don't forget to share your make on Instagram or Facebook with #mysewingchallenge and to tag us so we can see your entry!

You have one week to make your garment and share/tag us on social media, we will pick our first winner on Tuesday next week before the show... and they will receive a £25 gift voucher to spend on sewing goodies of their choice!

Need some inspiration?

Each week we are also making a project (or maybe two if we have time) to help inspire you. For this challenge, we chose to make a sweet little hoodie using some snuggly sweatshirting and an open-ended zip - we don't use these very often so it was something new for us!

More Inspiration

Each week, we are also putting together a Pinterest board full of ideas on the theme of the challenge to help inspire you and give you some project ideas - check out our sewing zips board here!

Don't forget: all our zips are half price at the moment!
